Abstract
Le but de la présence étude était d'évaluer la présence et le trajet du canal incisif dans la région interforaminale du menton de la mandibule humaine et de décrire la survenue de ses variations anatomiques. Les mandibules de 50 cadavres humains adultes ont été collectées dans le département d'anatomie de la faculté de médecine de l'université catholique de Leuven (Belgique). 40 mandibules étaient édentées alors que 10 mandibules étaient encore partiellement dentées. Une imagerie intra-orale, panoramique et topographique de la région interforaminale de la mandibule humaine a été réalisée. Ensuite les mandibules ont été sciées verticalement selon les plans de tomographies utilisées précédemment, ces dernières ont permis d'étudier la présence et le trajet d'un prolongement antérieur du canal mandibulaire. Les mesures destinées à localiser le canal incisif par rapport à la base de la mandibule ont été réalisées avec un compas électronique. Les résultats montraient la présence d'un canal incisif bien défini (diamètre intérieur moyen 1,8 ± 0,5 mm) observé macroscopiquement sur 96% des mandibules. Le canal incisif était situé en moyenne à 9,7 ± 9,8 mm du bord cortical inférieur de la mandibule et se continuait vers la région incisive avec une direction légèrement descendante, à une distance moyenne du bord cortical inférieur de 7,2 ± 2,1 mm. Nous en concluons qu'il existe un prolongement intra-osseux antérieur du canal mandibulaire, appelé canal incisif. Ce dernier peut être considéré comme une véritable extension antérieure du paquet vasculo-nerveux. Des études histologiques et neurophysiologiques supplémentaires sont nécessaires pour vérifier cette hypothèse et évaluer ses implications cliniques potentielles.
